[book] Nalini Singh – Psy & Changeling Trinity 01 – Silver Silence

Language: English
Pages: 467
Genre: Paranormal Romance

Control. Precision. Family. These are the principles that drive Silver Mercant. At a time when the fledgling Trinity Accord seeks to unite a divided world, with Silver playing a crucial role as director of a worldwide emergency response network, wildness and chaos are the last things she needs in her life. But that’s exactly what Valentin Nikolaev, alpha of the StoneWater Bears, brings with him.

Valentin has never met a more fascinating woman. Though Silver is ruled by Silence—her mind clear of all emotion—Valentin senses a whisper of fire around her. That’s what keeps him climbing apartment buildings to be near her. But when a shadow assassin almost succeeds in poisoning Silver, the stakes become deadly serious…and Silver finds herself in the heart of a powerful bear clan.

Her would-be assassin has no idea what their poison has unleashed…

This book really felt like the old school „Psy & Changeling“ series, I fell in love with back in the day and to be honest I missed those book I read at the start of the series and how they made me feel. The last few very books had multiple plot lines going on despite claiming to be about on specific hero and heroine. They were still good books, but the focus was always on a lot of different things.
But with Silver Silence the romance, the developing relationship between Silver and Valentin, was front and centre in the book and like in the old school books it was sprinkled with short chapters of other characters to get a better sense of the story and to move the overall plot along. I very much approve.

The story between Silver and Valentin was a great one and after reading the excerpt before the release I was a bit more excited than I expected to be to read more about the bears and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. They are a very enjoyable clan and we got introduced to a lot of characters, which I admit I couldn’t always keep track of, because they were all new and I got a bit confused with all the different Russian nicknames and endearments for one person. I probably will get the hang of it on the long run.
I enjoyed how Silver and Valentin got together and how their relationship fitted into „the case of the book“, which of course was a bigger part of the new threat in a world post silence. We got a first glimpse into what all the new characters and maybe a couple familiar ones will face this time around.

We also got the beginning of the first same sex romance in the series and those two were kinda cute, which is probably because of the bears nature and how a Mercant Psy react to them. I don’t think this will be front and centre of a book, but I hope we keep to get glimpses of how that’s going to turn out.

Can this book be read without the knowledge of the other ones? I think so. It is a start of a new series, like a second season. If you’re familiar with the first part you will enjoy the mentions of all the old characters and if you’re not familiar with it, I think you will get enough information to not get confused.

[WIR] Watching Back 2016

… selbe Adresse, anderer Ort.

01. Get Lucky – Tall, Dark & Dangerous 09 – Suzanne Brockmann
02. A Reason to Believe – Diana Copland
03. Allegiance of Honour – Psy & Changeling 15 – Nalini Singh
04. The Guy from Glamour – The Guy 01 – Skylar M. Cates
05. Frisk Me – New York’s Finest – Lauren Layne

06. Out of her League – Suspense Series 01 – Kaylea Cross
07. Die Befreier von Canea – Codes Alera 05 – Jim Butcher

80 Movies

Filme machen mir immer Spaß und mit Fantastic Beats and where to find them und Rogue One: A Star Wars Story haben mich zwei Film-Universen begeistert, mit denen ich vorher nicht viel tun hatte.

+ Chasing Liberty
+ Captain America: The Winter Soldier
+ Deadpool
+ Captain America: Civil War
+ The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
+ Star Trek: Beyond
+ James Bond 007: SPECTRE
+ Fantastic Beats and where to find them
+ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

888 TV Show Episodes (89 TV Shows)

+ Lucifer
+ Galavant
+ Limitless
+ Join or Die with Craig Ferguson
+ The Night Manager
+ Grantchester
+ Marvel’s Daredevil (Season 2)
+ Penny Dreadful
+ The Musketeers
+ Lethal Weapon
+ The Fall

[book] Nalini Singh – Psy & Changeling 15 – Allegiance of Honor

Language: English
Pages: 320
Genre: Paranormal Romance

The Psy-Changeling world has undergone a staggering transformation and now stands at a crossroads. The Trinity Accord promises a new era of cooperation between disparate races and groups. It is a beacon of hope held together by many hands: Old enemies. New allies. Wary loners.

But a century of distrust and suspicion can’t be so easily forgotten and threatens to shatter Trinity from within at any moment. As rival members vie for dominance, chaos and evil gather in the shadows and a kidnapped woman’s cry for help washes up in San Francisco, while the Consortium turns its murderous gaze toward a child who is the embodiment of change, of love, of piercing hope: A child who is both Psy . . . and changeling.

To find the lost, protect the vulnerable – and save Trinity – no one can stand alone. This is a time of loyalty across divisions, of bonds woven into the heart and the soul, of heroes known and unknown standing back to back and holding the line. But is an allegiance of honour even possible with traitors lurking in their midst?

Well, me an reading we are on difficult terms at the moment. I really would like to read some books waiting around here, but it’s so hard to get my attention and to give the books a fair chance I rather do not read and miss a good book just because I’m not in the mood. So therefore this little review might be a bit harsher than it would be if me and reading were still be buddies.

Anyway, it’s a good read and it’s great that you get to meet so many familiar characters again after you left them at the end of their story. Also thumbs up for Nalini Singh for not claiming this book would be about a certain couple. I really dislike it, when the description says it’s about her & him, but basically it’s only 20% of the plot and the rest is about everything else. But if you ask me a big portion of the plot went to Sascha, Lucas and little Naya and the BlackSea water changelings. I don’t mind the part with Sascha and Lucas, I even totally like it that the book ended with them, because this huge story arc started with them, so it was a nice conclusion. BlackSea on the other hand, I never really cared for them. I know they’re supposed to be mysterious and new, but I didn’t warm up to Maine. Maybe it will change when she will be the centre of a book and therefore will be more than the dangerous Alpha of the BlackSea water changelings.

Another reason why the book didn’t really hook me, it was just too much political talk and dialogue about strategies page after page. I’m an impatient reader, I need the plot to move, I need things to happen, but despite a lot of things happening the book wasn’t fast paced enough for my taste, like the pages about the funeral that seemed so important to the story, but it was my least favourite part. The only thing that felt rushed was Xaviers and Ninas reunion, they met again, everything was forgotten and forgiven and the next thing you know they were gonna get married. It’s just a friggin‘ pet peeve mine. Just get to know each other again, live together, figure out who you become.

There were still more little things that bothered me at one point, but again it was a good read and I’m still impressed at how detailed the world is. The whole book felt like a big epilogue mixed in with a prologue for the next part of the story arc, which I’m curious to find out and get to read.

[WIR] Watching Back 2015

01. Hot Shots: Men of Fire 02 – Hot as Sin – Bella Andre
02. Rock Kiss 01.5 – Rock Courtship – Nalini Singh
03. Psy & Changeling 14 – Shards of Hope – Nalini Singh
04. Wächter Saga 01 – Wächter der Nacht – Sergei Lukyanenko
05. The Guardian Angelinos 01 – Edge of Sight – Roxanne St. Claire
06. Cyborgs: More Than Machines 02 – F814 – Eve Langlais
07. Cyborgs: More Than Machines 03 – B785 – Eve Langlais
08. Codex Alera 04 – Der Protektor von Calderon – Jim Butcher
09. Rock Kiss 02 – Rock Hard – Nalini Singh

88 Movies

+ Big Hero 6 (Baymax)
+ Siren
+ Kingsman: The Second Service
+ Captain America: The Winter Soldier
+ The Age of Adeline
+ The Hobbit: The Battle of the Fives Armies
+ Craig Ferguson: Just Being Honest
+ Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
+ The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
+ James Bond 007: SPECTRE
+ Ant-Man
+ Man Up
+ Hotel Transylvania 2

Psy & Changeling Series (Nalini Singh)

[book] Nalini Singh – Psy & Changeling 14 – Shards of Hope

Language: English
Pages: 496
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Rating: 3/5

Awakening wounded in a darkened cell, their psychic abilities blocked, Aden and Zaira know they must escape. But when the lethal soldiers break free from their mysterious prison, they find themselves in a harsh, inhospitable landscape far from civilization. Their only hope for survival is to make it to the hidden home of a predatory changeling pack that doesn’t welcome outsiders.

And they must survive. A shadowy enemy has put a target on the back of the Arrow squad, an enemy that cannot be permitted to succeed in its deadly campaign. Aden will cross any line to keep his people safe for this new future, where even an assassin might have hope of a life beyond blood and death and pain. Zaira has no such hope. She knows she’s too damaged to return from the abyss. Her driving goal is to protect Aden, protect the only person who has ever come back for her no matter what.

This time, even Aden’s passionate determination may not be enough – because the emotionless chill of Silence existed for a reason. For the violent, and the insane, and the irreparably broken . . . like Zaira.

I have to admit I’m a bit indifferent about the book. With all the positive reviews and everybody being so excited about Aden and Zaira I had a bit of an expectation that I would like the book more rather than it just being a good read. It was a good read, because that world building is just amazing and so layered that there are always new things to discover. I always wonder how Nalini Singh keeps track of all the details.

Aden is a wonderful character, who I was always aware of, but he never entirely sparked my interest, this book definitely put a spot on him. I was close to fall in love him and wanted to slap people, when they questioned his status as the leader of the Arrows, just because at 1st glance he wasn’t that powerful. Oh were they all wrong! Through the whole book I was trying to guess what is power was and didn’t came even close, so extra points for surprising me.

Zaira on the hand, I still don’t know if she is super awesome or not. I have to admit at one point I was a bit annoyed with the constant mentioning of her rage even if I get it was a very important part of her. I was glad when it toned down, after the relationship between Aden and Zaire got more developed. Otherwise she was a powerful woman and I guess you need someone like that to make sure that Aden from now and than thinks about himself.

It was also great getting a glimpse into two new packs, giving us a hint what might come in the next instalment after the 1st huge story arc is over. It was also great to get a look into a pack in the making and I hope we gonna read more about the RainFire-Pack, because I definitely got a crush on Remi.

The story itself was great, again great world building, so much details which seem endless and the world never appears to be short of enemies, definitely can’t wait how all the loose threads will find closure. Unfortunately this amazing world building was the reason why I’m so indifferent about the book, because of all the other things which needed to happen in this book the relationship between Aden and Zaira fell a bit short. I wasn’t as into them as I was with others throughout the series and I kind of miss that.

Anyway great read, entertaining and even with book 14 in the series the quality remains the same.

[book] Nalini Singh – Psy & Changeling 13 – Shield of Winter

Language: English
Pages: 416
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Rating: 4/5

Assassin. Soldier. Arrow. That is who Vasic is, who he will always be. His soul drenched in blood, his conscience heavy with the weight of all he’s done, he exists in the shadows, far from the hope his people can almost touch – if only they do not first drown in the murderous insanity of a lethal contagion. To stop the wave of death, Vasic must complete the simplest and most difficult mission of his life. For if the Psy race is to survive, the empaths must wake. Having rebuilt her life after medical ‚treatment‘ that violated her mind and sought to stifle her abilities, Ivy should have run from the black-clad Arrow with eyes of winter frost. But Ivy Jane has never done what she should. Now, she’ll fight for her people, and for this Arrow who stands as her living shield, yet believes he is beyond redemption. But as the world turns to screaming crimson, even Ivy’s fierce will may not be enough to save Vasic from the cold darkness.

I’m always excited when a new book in this series is released, but I have to admit I was a bit sceptical with this one concerning the female protagonist, simply because I didn’t really warm up to Sahara (I definitely liked her more in this book.). BUT Ivy was very much different from Sahara, I guess being a E-Psy makes you more likeable by default.

Anyway, the plot of the book was great. I was wondering how everything would change with Silence fallen and how it would effect everybody in the Net. (And I somehow got my answer why Psys don’t form separate nets like the Lauren Family, but I’m still wondering how their net lived for so long, I guess one E-Psy in the family was enough to keep it alive.) There were a lot causalities, which I didn’t expect and I’m glad that none of the known and beloved characters got effect by the infection. I always admire authors, who can kill of characters the readers love, but I also equally hate it.

The build up until they finally found a solution for the infection was intense and because of that the conclusion kind of fell flat to me. It happened in the last book too. I guess with the expectations and the excitement I anticipate a massive boom, but it just kind of happens.

The story between Ivy and Vasic right from the start, before I even knew I got totally sucked in and hooked. I always like the whole dance, the whole teasing, the wait and hell this was a long wait and dance, which totally paid of in the end. Vasic was awesome. I guess I have a weak spot for Arrows since the moment I fell in love with Judd. They always seem so hard to get to, a bit annoying and frustrating at times, but once they let it happened, it’s just adorable – if you can say something like that about an Arrow. Maybe it always happens that way, because Arrows are different from the rest of the bunch. Throughout the story we got to know that Arrows partnered with an E-Psy are changing. Now I’m really curious how a female Arrow would do in that context, preferably with a changeling, simply because I miss this kind of pairing.

But what is next? How is this whole story arc going to conclude? The only thing left is the destruction of Ming le Bon. And who is going to share a storyline with Hawke and Sienna getting their revenge? I really would like to read about Aden, because we know so much and yet so less about him. He seems a bit different, but also not. And if it’s someone completely different I a least hope for a little short story.

Live long and prosper,
