Control. Precision. Family. These are the principles that drive Silver Mercant. At a time when the fledgling Trinity Accord seeks to unite a divided world, with Silver playing a crucial role as director of a worldwide emergency response network, wildness and chaos are the last things she needs in her life. But that’s exactly what Valentin Nikolaev, alpha of the StoneWater Bears, brings with him.

Valentin has never met a more fascinating woman. Though Silver is ruled by Silence—her mind clear of all emotion—Valentin senses a whisper of fire around her. That’s what keeps him climbing apartment buildings to be near her. But when a shadow assassin almost succeeds in poisoning Silver, the stakes become deadly serious…and Silver finds herself in the heart of a powerful bear clan.

Her would-be assassin has no idea what their poison has unleashed…

This book really felt like the old school „Psy & Changeling“ series, I fell in love with back in the day and to be honest I missed those book I read at the start of the series and how they made me feel. The last few very books had multiple plot lines going on despite claiming to be about on specific hero and heroine. They were still good books, but the focus was always on a lot of different things.
But with Silver Silence the romance, the developing relationship between Silver and Valentin, was front and centre in the book and like in the old school books it was sprinkled with short chapters of other characters to get a better sense of the story and to move the overall plot along. I very much approve.

The story between Silver and Valentin was a great one and after reading the excerpt before the release I was a bit more excited than I expected to be to read more about the bears and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. They are a very enjoyable clan and we got introduced to a lot of characters, which I admit I couldn’t always keep track of, because they were all new and I got a bit confused with all the different Russian nicknames and endearments for one person. I probably will get the hang of it on the long run.
I enjoyed how Silver and Valentin got together and how their relationship fitted into „the case of the book“, which of course was a bigger part of the new threat in a world post silence. We got a first glimpse into what all the new characters and maybe a couple familiar ones will face this time around.

We also got the beginning of the first same sex romance in the series and those two were kinda cute, which is probably because of the bears nature and how a Mercant Psy react to them. I don’t think this will be front and centre of a book, but I hope we keep to get glimpses of how that’s going to turn out.

Can this book be read without the knowledge of the other ones? I think so. It is a start of a new series, like a second season. If you’re familiar with the first part you will enjoy the mentions of all the old characters and if you’re not familiar with it, I think you will get enough information to not get confused.
